Situated at the northern part of Oregon, Hermiston lies in Umatilla County, covering 5.5 square miles. Interstate 82, Interstate 84 and U.S. Highway 395 allow smooth travel to nearby cities.
Take a drive to Boise, Idaho, about 250 miles away, or Portland, Oregon, nearly 190 miles west. Travel to Seattle or Spokane, Washington.
These cities are practically right next door to Hermiston with Washington state so close a neighbor.
Traveling by air is possible through Portland International Airport with the airport’s several major airlines. Travelers can fly all over the world to places like Tokyo, Frankfurt and Guadalajara. Non-stop destinations include Fresno, Amsterdam, Cincinnati and many more.
Other airports in the area consist of Hermiston Municipal Airport located two miles southeast of Hermiston; Tri-Cities Airport situated in Pasco, Washington and Eastern Oregon Regional Airport at Pendleton. Still a presence after more than 50 years, the Union Pacific Railroad’s switching facility is located here. The Hinkle Rail Yard services the railroad’s equipment. The Columbia River transportation system is accessible through the Port of Umatilla. Train travel is made possible through Amtrak.
